Nazool Land: There was a lot of uproar in Haldwani, Uttarakhand regarding vacating the land and some people even died in it. This was Nazul’s land which was being vacated by the government. Some religious buildings were built in this Nazul land, on which bulldozer action was being taken. During this time violence broke out and there was a lot of uproar. Now there is a question in the minds of people that what is Nazul land and for how many years can it be available, along with this there are many questions regarding the rights on it.
What is Nazul land?
First of all let us know what is Nazul land. Nazul land is land on which no one has any claim, i.e. land on which no documents are available to claim it. The government has rights on this land. After India’s independence from the British, many such lands were given to the governments. This land belonged to those people who had raised their voice against the British. For doing this their lands were confiscated and those people were sentenced.
Claims were made on some such lands, but some lands remained on which no one claimed. Such lands were handed over to the state governments. That is, the state in which that land was located was put under the control of the state government. That means Nazul land is a government land, on which only the government has the right.
Government issued leases
Nazul’s land remained vacant for many years, but later governments started using it. It started being given on lease for many public welfare works, from schools to hospitals were built on such lands. At the same time, land was also given to some people who did not have land for agriculture. Under Nazul transfer rules, this land is given for such purposes. Through this, land leases are given.
For how many years is the land given?
The land lease issued by the government is also fixed for a certain period; some are given land leases for 10 years and others for 15 to 20 years. After this period the government has to return the land. People belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Backward Class can get Nazul land up to 6 bighas. Any kind of building built on this land cannot be bought, nor can the agricultural land be sold. If the government wants, it can cancel the lease midway.
